Serving Veterans at Wild Cove Farm: the vision and plan
In 2018, Erin co-founded Warriors & Horses with Nancy Grette of Alatheia Riding Center, and Heather Hobart-Hill of Central Washington Veterans Counseling. Our program joined an ever-growing movement of practitioners utilizing Equine Assisted Therapy to improve the lives of veterans. Warriors & Horses specifically serves combat veterans living with Post Traumatic Stress.
Participants in Warriors & Horses complete pre-program and post- program assessments measuring Post Traumatic Stress Symptoms and Generalized Anxiety. The results consistently demonstrate that sessions with the horses offer accelerated improvement over traditional in-office sessions. Erin is humbled and inspired by what she’s witnessed and is committed to offering services for veterans at Wild Cove Farm (and she’s already been encouraged to expand services to include First Responders).
The Plan:
Phase 1 (Fall 2020-Fall 2022), Refining the Vision
Warriors at Wild Cove will reflect the needs of the communities we intend to serve. The first step is to listen! What do veterans want and need? Locally and regionally? What do healthcare providers serving veterans see as high priority? Are they interested in integrating horses into their work? What about the needs of active duty military personnel and military families? What veteran organizations are interested in pairing up to diversify their offerings?

Phase 2 (Fall 2022- Spring 2023): Building the Foundation
Based on feedback from individuals and the Advisory Council, we’ll assemble our first Board of Directors, create our mission statement, strategic plan, and establish a non profit organization.
Then we can start fundraising for programs!
Phase 3 (Summer 2023): Offer Programming!
